Thanksgiving is a time for
Remembering everything you have and appreciating it to the fullest. Life can go any number of ways and we must embrace who and what we have in our lives and never forgot how quick it can be taken away from us.
While i don’t have much real family close to me i have good friends, coworkers, teammates, husband, and my amazing pack of dogs. I have wonderful family i get to see a few times a year and i appreciate every moment with them. I am so thankful and happy for the roles that everyone play in my life, I would not be me without each of them. Happy thanksgiving and here is to a great holiday season.
Busy weekend
Friday brought a trip down to Rita’s to see the puppies and have kevin meet them for the first time. 5 weeks old and counting and they are irresistible! Playing non stop and being crazy is what they do. My favorite Yellow girl cuddled up and dragged toys over to me all night long. She really is making me fall in love with her! She is very drivey, has a great bite, and loves to play tug.
Yellow girl or “Mustang Sally” as her nick name has been since birth is a sweetheart and on the top of my favorite list. Of course i do also love pink girl or “Diva” as she was the pup who was delivered dry, i had to pull out and give mouth to mouth to.
And of course the favorite boy in the group is green boy or “Bear” who kevin loves because of his huge fluffy coat and stoner personality!!
The following day i traveled down to Long Island, howard beach to be exact to help my team Eagle Valley Search Dogs look for a missing man in a creepy 80 acre preserve in his neighborhood. After getting lost in harlem i finally made it over all the stupid bridges and to LI. Stepping over humane feces, animal heads from sacrifices, shoes, glass, stolen atv’s and burned out jeep cherokee’s in the ocean we personally covered almost 7 miles through bamboo reeds over 10 feet high. The worst part was the one clearing under a bunch of dead trees that had duck tape and rope constructions of a swing, chair, and bed and a huge deep hole in the middle with a shovel sticking out. I think we argued over who was going to look into the hole first hoping there wasn’t a body in it! Of course it was just a creepy hole, with old glass bottles all over dug up and a chest full of bones.
Moral of the post…………stay outta long island.
Relax
Some weeks seem like they go by so fast, until i look at my blog i dont realize how long its been!!! Tonight was a relaxing night, with a hike when i got home from work and then some training time individually, then some chill time on the couch! Working a lot the last few weeks has kept me busy. We also had a search on saturday instead of water training so no fun blog posts with pictures. Though this saturday is New Jersey water training and that should yeild some good pics and video and a good time. Plus my new future search dog should be conceived this week if all goes well!!! She/he will be a half sister to Emeline, they have the same dad but different mom. Their mom is also a certified NYS search dog, she is also certified through IPWADA and STPWD in cadaver! Should be another SUPER canine copilot pack member!
My big girl!
Yesterday was a milestone day for my girl. Kara, I and our 4 dogs hit the state land across the street from her house. And we HIT IT HARD! I turned the GPS on and we started in, figuring we would shoot for the pond that kara can see from further down the rd. So off we venture taking pictures, talking dogs, and enjoying the day. We get out of the woods and follow the wet stream in, little did we know how wet we would actually get! The brush and water got so think we ended up crawling most of it, and the water so deep it was over our waste in many spots. We grabbed some large sticks and tested the depth before plunging in, of course sinking into the much another foot or two because of our weight sucked!! The dogs i must say did great and eme had to overcome SO many obstacles. She had to jump blindly into water and swim, had to travel through prickers, places where she couldn’t even see or feel me, muck and swamp so deep it was over her head and navigation that took us over an hour in little more then a quater of a mile. Once we got out of the muck (and never made it near the pond) we hit the trails in the woods and ended up finding one that lead right in to the edge of the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well the dogs had fun, the pond still had deep swamp all around it, clark and eme were tired, covered in mud and smelled SO bad. I was a bloody, muddy mess and we all hit the shower when we got home. Gotta give it to eme and her rock solid nerves and ability to do whatever i asked!
smithsonian in DC
Sitting in the smithsonian in DC, saw the original flag from the 1800’s that inspired the star spangled banner which is cool but the rest of the museum is what I would call boring thus the reason for the non dog blog post. I feel as though I am slowly being tortured with no canine companion with me.
Another day another dollar
After dealing with a day full of dogs with ringworm I was happy to get home clean up and cuddle my fungus free dogs 🙂 So of course that means a play session with miss eme and a romp in the woods. Daddy kept her busy all day and of course got some good pics!
She did great on our romp, i had afew places were clark and i were struggling to crawl through under and over and she did it like a pro. For the most part she stayed right with me but 2 or 3 times she took off with the pack of dogs to explore a hundred yards or so from me. She always came back with a happy yell or sound or even on her own once she realized she missed mom.
And so she arrives!!!
This post is to introduce Ms Emeline Downeaster Alexa Vom Schutzburg Culver
She arrived wednesday afternoon after a trip up 17 from Olivebranch. After the paperwork and pickup we headed over to her sister’s new home to visit and introduce cadeaver. A few head pops she stopped dead in her tracks and sought out that good smell and then tried to carry it off to home!! What a good HRD dog already!!!!
Once home we saw her personality come out over the next 12 hrs or so. She loves the other dogs and they her, it was the easiest introduction in the world! We headed over to a friends house who has a King shepherd a few weeks older and went on a hike in the woods, she did great going through streams over branches and down trees and ankle high in the mud!!
Thursday evening brought a romp in our woods with her boxer sister and younger GSD brother. We went about half a mile and she again amazed me with her style, grace, and determined ability to keep up. Her confidence is amazing and her drive to be with her pack immense.
Friday brought our first night walk, we introduced a collar with spotlight on it and took off for about 3/4 of a mile walk. The first part was all trails, getting her used to the lack of light. Kendal and Clark explored the sides of the trail and she went off once or twice about 10 feet from me to also explore but never stayed away longer then 40 seconds or so. We wrapped up the last part by delving into the woods and a few stumps gave her a whine or too but a quick praise once she made it over and she kept her tail high and a smile on her face.
Eme is amazing, she is already a perfect dog and with only 1 accident in the house how could she not be??
Just got home
