An obedient adventure

Raina in a platz

I’m a dog trainer, but i’ve never been a dog trainer who really LOVED teaching obedience. I usually took on the behavioral cases the more challenging canines because i liked the adventure it took me on and i loved watching the dog transform. Now, my dogs have obedience training and all the dogs i teach must have a good foundation of obedience but i never thought i would really enjoy teaching strict competition level obedience.

WELL THAT CHANGED!!!!!!!!

A. It’s necessary fact of life, my dogs already have great obedience why not prove it a bit?

B. It’s wonderful to teach more then just fun tricks and real life skills, obedience routines are an amazing area to perfect a relationship.

C. I like to stay busy?????? ( Please excuse the question marks, sometimes i think i’m nuts)

D. It is FUN!!!!!

I never had anything against competition obedience, i just seemed to focus my training in other venues. This summer however my goal is to get both Abby and Raina obedience titled. This means major focus on their heal, finish, and drop out of motion obedience commands. The commands are less used in everyday life (hence the reason i never really focused on them) but do complete the obedience routine nicely. Both will compete for their BH (Begleithund)  which is the precursor for all Schutzhund work. Neither will compete in schutzhund, as they are both SAR certified already and i personally do not wish to mix the two but i figure why not expand my training in knowledge into yet another area?? That is what good dog trainers DO!!!!!!

Keep an eye out for more posts on their training and success during this adventure.

I am a wild one

Frank, Raina, Emeline, Abby

I have been absent for many months, but have no doubt the dogs have been busy!!! Life has thrown a few curve balls but I’ve managed to hit everyone, and i think i even scored a home run.

Many have thrown around the description “Tenacious”  lately to label my atheltic drives, stubborn bullheadedness, and desire to get what i want and need accomplished……….i guess it is a lot easier to say 🙂 Regardless i know who i am, and i am a perfect reflection of my canine companions, tenacious but still sweet and loving.

The year is 2012 and my goals remain the same, train dogs, save lives, and teach humans how to have the ultimate relationship with their canine companions through communication, consistency, and mutual respect. I hope your ready for a tenacious summer ❤

Terrific Tip Tuesday

EICT has begun to realize that just reaching out to it’s clients through weekly training is not enough. I want to let as many people as i can have the ULTIMATE relationship with their dog.  I want to teach as much as i can, and pass on my dog knowledge to all. I am currently accepting email’s with short common problem descriptions, example My dog pee’s in the house and he is 2 years old. I am positive you are not the only owner experiencing this problem and every Tuesday i will pick one of the problems to blog about. So what are you waiting for EMAIL ME EliteInstinctCanine@gmail.com   Don’t forget if you would like a Free Dog Behavioral Consult to visit our website.

The show that goes on

I’m a little behind in my blog posts but trying to catch up!!

Last sunday Eagle Valley search dogs had to attend the dog show in Whitney Point NY. I was presented with the AKC CAR award money for the grant i wrote earlier this year. This 2000 dollars will go to supporting our fall Combined Federation search seminar in the end of september. Abby and her real sister Raven both did short demo’s of the recall refind indication sequence and abby was available for people to meet and greet.

Our table attracted a lot of attention and hopefully we were able to scout out some new volunteers to come hide and train with us!!! If you are ever interested and in the Broome County or Delaware County area email me EliteInstinctCanine@gmail.com  We are always looking for volunteers to go get lost!!!

The working girls

Last weekend was a rough one, but we still did what we could and the girls had fun. Saturday we trained with Amigo Sar dogs up in New Berlin. We ran everyone on some HR hides as well as live hides. The HR was great, we hid it in a 130 pounds replica guy from the firehouse!!

Our "subject"

Abby decided not only was it an easy find but also an easy indication to mom!

BAM!!!!!

It was hot out and everyone went for a swim after their problem to cool down. Raina had a blast jumping into the fast moving water to grab her ball. She’s getting pretty good at catching it, though mom doesn’t let her do it often she is still to young to beat up her bones like that!

I bounce like Tigger!!!!!!

play time after a job well done

Raina and Abby both sustained some muscle and pad injuries and were put on light duty.  This last week they rested up and appear good to go! Down time is always the worst with these girls, they are just not meant to be couch potatoes!!

It’s a holiday weekend?

Well of course we humans know its a holiday weekend but honestly the dogs have no idea. Despite numerous k9 injuries all weekend long (the human actually stayed semi healthy!) we still made the best of what we had. Friday was a quite morning and mom got to celebrate her birthday with a long pack hike.  It was peaceful and relaxing.  The dogs too enjoyed it even though mom always makes them behave during these things!!!

Obedience and focus is necessary in the Canine Copilot pack

The weekend was filled with an enjoyed balance of outside sun and fresh air and nice quite evenings by the fire in the backyard. As usual the afternoons were doggie nap time

And then back to the wilderness we returned!!!!
