Meer Zoey!

Having done animal rescue for going on 14 years, it’s essentially in my blood to help. After leaving the Southern Tier area in 2011 and relocating Life Long Tails the 501c3 not for profit and one of the first of its kind in the area broke apart and I continued dog rescue on a small scale. Having now relocated to the greater NYC area and having a focus on working dogs and aggressive dogs K9 to 5 Rescue Inc was incorporated in 2014 by me, and we are happy to say will be growing in 2015!!! In the meantime we will continue to do the rescue work we can, and always have done.

I’d like to introduce Ms Zoey, a sweet 8 year old shitz tzu who was going to be euthanized for loose stoole. Yes….I’m not kidding.

Luckily we stepped in and that is no longer the case.

The pack welcomes Jason

Jason is the newest Life Long Tails foster pup who came into our house last night. Filming his welcoming party to share with all. The Canine Copilot pack is great with new dogs and you can see everyone stop and check him out a few times. Little jason is only 4 pounds and 7 weeks old! He will be up for adoption in a few weeks.

A Life Long Tails Rescue weekend

This past weekend was spent with the Life Long Tails crew doing fundraising and Marshaling at the Dicks Open golf tournament.

Creature Comforts Adoption Day

Saturday Dougs Fish Fry from Cortland came down to do a fundraiser for us. They donated 10% from EVERY dollar they made!!!!! Dougs not only has great food but a great heart to thank you Dougs!!!! We also had a bake sale and adoption day in creature comforts the same day and Moonunit got a new home whoo hooo!!! We were lucky enough to see a bunch of our adopted dogs who came out to support us and say hi.

Fish fry and bake sale in the parking lot

It was a great day and we thank everyone who came out, supported us, and made donations. Without your help we couldn’t save more l ives!

Kitten for adoption!

Sunday a group of 10 of us marshaled holes 8 and 9 for the dicks open. It was a great experience and we were happy to give back to our community by helping out. I of course got hit in the head with a drive ball off the Tee. Ahhhh some things just never change!

A group of us with the sign that Dicks sporting goods donated for us!!!

Thank you to Dicks Sporting goods for donating the sign as well as our hats for the volunteers!! It was a fantastic time and you bet we will be there next year!!

Todays escapades

Today started like any normal day, up early out with the pups for the morning routine. The 4 shepherds ( we can’t leave out the little foster GSD) hit the truck and head to Vestal to get a day of search and rescue training in. We meet up with some Amigo girls and work some outside airscent and cadaver problems. The girls did great and mr Weib got to hang out and meet some cool new people, dogs, and sniff some new smells!

Weib!!!!

After a quick lunch break its on to building work where i was able to fine tune Emeline’s refind sequence.  My girl is ready to start on the path to certification!! It was a bumpy ride, and one her sister sailed past her in but it has been worth it, Eme has a wonderful bark, a great indication and refind and is an amazing search dog in the making. Now we must balance her airscent work, with getting her ready to IPWADA HRD test this September and of course not leave out her obedience that will be tested in September as well for her certification! Ohhhh boy gonna be a busy summer at the Canine Copilot homestead!

Eme in her group down stay with distractions!

The girls with mom

A little of this a little of that

The weekend was busy and the girls didn’t get work everyday like they are used to. Snoopy had surgery on friday and came through it like a champ. He is recovering and doing well. This old man won’t have to worry about any more surgery for a LONG time to come.

Saturday kendal and I headed down to work with a few clients and to get her service dog “test” completed. She passed with flying colors and is just a true testament to what a rescue dog can turn into. She also spent the weekend as Life Long Tails donation dog raising money and raising awareness to what it is we do for helpless animals!!

YAY Kendal!!!

Sunday the girls finally got there day. Kara and Mika jumped in the car and we headed down to the school for some work for the girls and some good dog teaching for the kids.   The kids had built a snow cave last week and we were able to get Mika and Eme on the first snow cave ever!  Eme did amazing, worked the scent out great, stayed committed, and crawled all the way into the cave to find her subject. We worked on her recall, indication and refind with the snow cave as it gave a different scent picture and environment which always challenges the puppies!

My butts sticking out of the cave!!

She worked a total of almost an hour and still had to play ball all the way back to the truck with the boys.  We got our excercise in walking in snow shoes the whole time!!! It was better then falling 2 feet deep into the snow drifts though!

Off to work we go!

Of course Raina needs her time too and she wow’d us all with how well she works!!! She knows her job and she knows when its about to start. I just introduced her vest in and she gets so excited to get dressed.

back talk to mom!

Raina has been lucky enough to get the perfect flawless training method where mom makes no mistakes (yet) and she has yet to have a big hang up. I know its coming, shes only 4 months old, but her nose work is natural and amazing, and her refind and indication to me is phenomenal. Of course shes pretty crazy too!!

mom mom mom i know where he is!!! mom mom mom!!!

The day was a good one. Mr felix blue the newest shepherd that we took in was introduced to cadaver and we did a few short runaways with him as well. He loves food, and loves to play ball, and loves to search!!!

Hello working world!!!
