What are the first thoughts that come to mind as a search dog handler?
Sweat
Slobber
Sun
Sleepless nights
Pricker bushes
Never ending energy
Obedience
Time
Dedication
Love
Unselfishness
Tears
And the ever filled pockets of hotdogs and tug toys
I could fill pages with stories and experiences both good and bad about being a SAR K9 handler but at the end of the day I love it and the relationship it gives me with my dogs. A million lessons already learned and a million more to follow. If interested in learning more about this life changing experience or to just meet some cool people, we always welcome visitors to hide and watch our dogs work. Just wanted to say y’all are incredible. I have a one year old shepherd but no training experience but I have gotten as far as when he is in a full run and I say stop he stops and sits by my side. I really can’t take credit for it he is just really smart. I would love to see him really trained but affording it is another story. Anyway just wanted to drop a line or ten and say thank you for everything you do with such great animals.
Thanks Tommy. Good luck with your pup!!! If your ever in the area and would like to come watch us train or hide in the woods let me know.
